For this reason I have decided to save the finds I have for now until the new blog is launched.

I did stumble over these a while back but did so again yesterday so ... for all those that didn't see them the first time round ... I bring you Hermes Vans. This is not a collaboration with Hermes but more of an exercise in Up cycling from the stylist Robert Verdi. Bored with the limitation of wearing scarves round his neck he got himself some bespoke trainers upholstered in his beautiful collection of vintage Hermes scarves. For some die hard fans this could be blasphemous ... but I must admit I'm strangely attracted...

Sorry folks ... its taking me quite a while to get back into the world of blogging..tweeting and generally working ... but mince pies are now a distant memory and the show must go on.... I have some plans brewing regarding the blog, so posts may be less regular as I get all this in order, i'm hoping the new look..new name and slightly new slant on my blog will be ready for your eyes to see in February so please bear with me and watch this space **** & ***** is only a few technical glitches away...

In the meantime I found these amazing hats on Raneytown.com today and had to share the millinery love... I prononunce 2012 the year I shall wear more hats ( particularly if these hats are by Frederica Moretti)... and this will also be the year I will be more action over procrastination ... I would also like it to be the year I meet Sir Paul Smith, get commissioned by Hermes to do a window display and make a rocking horse ... time will tell ; ) ... I am considering writing to Shane Richie with these aspirations, as I am also to turn 30 in 2012 (eek) so there is plenty of wishes to tick of my to do list this year! none of which involve any form of extreme sport.

Those who aren't familiar with wrap magazine..its time to familiarize yourself! The Hornsea Pottery was established in Hornsea, Yorkshire in 1949 by Desmond and Colin Rawson and they produced a variety of earthenware ornaments and tableware in fashionable designs. In 1970 another factory was opened in Lancaster due to the heavy demand for what had become an extremely popular range of items.

In 1984 the company was sold and then sold again a year later, resulting in the closure of the Lancaster plant. The Hornsea factory finally closed in 2000.

I never thought I would be blogging about Victoria Beckham here but I enjoyed watching her emotional acceptance speech at the British Fashion awards and how lovely is this animated short concieved by Quentin Jones and Another magazines fashion editor Agata Belcen for her spring/summer 2012 Denim collection.

The pair found a Fantastic starting point for inspiration in Jean Luc Goddard's film Bande Apart...you can't go wrong with a pinch of French New wave!

Its an unusual occurrence on the blog to post my own work but I received some hi-res images From Mr Burrill yesterday of the collaboration we worked on during his residency at Pick Me Up this year, so I thought I'd share the results.

The photographs are of the paper set designs we created and are taken by the talented photographer David Gill.

I like the way both our strong graphic languages compliment each other ... and I think we've managed to create a surreal place I'd happily visit ...

Incidentally Anthony has just released a new edition of his wood block poster "Work hard and be nice to people" on red 100% recycled paper. Snap it up here

Mexico + 3 Eames chair = Las Nenas, a lovely project where Three Eames chairs were analyzed from a Mexican Culture point of view; each reflecting different contexts and situations:
a) The Mule still used extensively by our miners and farmers to transport their belongings in rugged roadless regions.
b) The dancers showing their beauty during the Guelaguetza, an annual indigenous cultural event in Mexico that takes place in the city of Oaxaca.
c) And the world famous Piñata, present in many of our traditional celebrations.

Jan Skácelík loves Interiors (tick) loves scandanavian design (tick) and loves all that is mid century (triple tick!) He also loves pugs which I have to say ... not a massive fan of but hey! with all these wonderful loves, Jan has put together a great collection of interior eye candy.

He does feature my most loved and envy inducing interior that belongs to fashion designer David Delfin and photographer Gorka Postigo. I'm sorry, but flaunting an excessive amount of Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouve, Eames, Sylvia and John Read and Serge Mouille in my face is just plain mean...one day...

I am pretty ashamed of myself for not making down to KK Outlet for the "object abuse" show which from work I have seen in cyber space really did look pretty super. Above is the work of Dominic Wilcox who was previously featured on the blog here,

And here is a little more about the show,

KK Outlet challenged a group of leading artists, designers and stylists to take an everyday object, remould, rebuild and repurpose it to create an entirely new item using as little additional materials as possible.

An umbrella transforms into a flat pack kite
For sale signs become a flat pack birdhouse
A lightbulb becomes a micro-greenhouse
A sofa becomes a Pantomime horse

The aim of the project is to create a collection of re-imagined objects which highlight not only how everyday items can be recycled into something new but also how we think differently when we work with our hands and how physical interaction creates new ideas over and above working through concepts on screen.

What a fantastic concept for an exhibition!

There is lots of interesting ceramics to be found on the Marsden Woo gallery, including the work of Carol mcNicholl whose whose pieces were recently featured on BBC 4's excellent documentary Ceramics : A fragile History but it was Dawn Youll's work that really stood out to me on the gallery site. Maybe its all about that contrast again..a traditional medium coupled with a modern subject matter in this case..an urban landscape.

Dawn Youll is a ceramicist living and working in Glasgow. Inspiration comes from her surroundings - the urban landscape, the studio environment and the making process itself. By combining forms and surfaces she creates curious compositions on a domestic scale "to communicate, celebrate and make sense of the world around us"

Sometimes I'd just love to get away from my screen and be more hands on...

I picked this book up at the the weekend from Clerkenwell tales . I was drawn to the title "The power of making", The beautiful design by Oscar & Ewan as well as the wonderful images inside.

At the time of buying the book I didn't realise that is was the accompanying catalog to an exhibition currently running at the V&A exploring the role of making in our lives.

I'm definitely going to head down to see some of these beautiful objects in the flesh...the exhibition on Postmodernism: Style + subversion looks like a winner too so I'm sure I'll leave the V&A feeling totally inspired and most likely more obsessed with 3D printing.

I do love a good banner! these church banners available from curious sofa are pretty perfect. I love that they are a bit disco and glittery on the type front too! The four antique velvet banners depict the important areas of character according to the church...I'd probably go for the endurance one, right by my desk.

Its funny that I stumbled across these now as i've just watched a really interesting program by Philosopher Alain de Botton on the perfect home and he likened the way we are drawn to certain objects and buildings in the same way we are to peoples character..we often look for the same traits or virtues, for example..courage..wit and self knowledge.

I think its an interesting approach to design, rather than trying to be the next new fancy thing perhaps if we concentrated on incorporating Aristotle's notes on good character into what we make..we may just come up with something timeless...

So, time to start making something with balls that knows how to laugh at itself then.

To me..German artist Thorsten Brinkmann's work is just perfect..a pinch of the odd..the surreal, and something familiar in the references to the old masters. It jars and makes you chuckle in equal measure.
Spot on.

So..My other half happens to be a pretty amazing artist and I am very lucky that our flat has a few of his beautiful pieces on the wall.
